The Don Gibson Theatre has been a point of interest, in Shelby, NC since 1939.
Originally opened as a movie house, the theatre was an instant hit.
Over time, the popularity faded as commercial movie theatres were created in more central locations. Malls and shopping centers began popping up around the Shelby and Gastonia area, adding movie theatres.
As a result, the theatre could not sustain.
Determined to maintain the history, a local Cleveland County organization revived the theatre to what it is today.
An active venue accepting acts from all around. From hosting music to comedy, the Don Gibson Theatre continues to thrive.
The Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby, NC is also a part of the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina.
